Did this winter’s mild weather have you dreaming of a ski getaway? If so, a first-rate destination will soon be within driving distance.

Colorado-based Vail Resorts just announced its plans for Wilmot Mountain, bringing the 1,000-foot peaks a little closer to premier skiing.

The $13 million in renovations will include new and refurbished lifts, a modernized lodge, and increased snowmaking capabilities. The improvements should be ready in time for the 2016-17 ski season.

Wilmot has been family-owned since its founding in 1938, but was bought by Vail Resorts for $20 million in January.

Vail Resorts plans to make Wilmot a Midwestern destination ski resort and bring it in line with its other U.S. ski resorts in Colorado, Utah, and California. The company has stated that it wants to attract more Midwesterners to skiing and snowboarding, and offer a taste of what awaits at more iconic and expensive properties.

Although always popular with locals learning to ski, Wilmot has suffered in recent years with customers complaining about long equipment rental lines and outdated ski lifts.

This summer’s improvements will include replacing or refurbishing seven of the eight lifts, and removing the eighth. The two- and three-person lifts will be replaced by four-person lifts.

Additionally, the Iron Kettle Restaurant will be renovated with a new bar and lounge, appealing to skiers relaxing between runs or for parents watching their kids in ski school.

Season pass owners will have the option of buying packages that link to other Vail Resort properties. A lift ticket package of $809 will give unlimited access to twelve ski resorts in the U.S (including Wilmot), while packages of $399-$609 will offer limited access to those areas.

The estimated price of a season pass to Wilmot for the 2016-2017 season will cost $379 through April 10. The starting price of a season pass last year was $370 and increased to $579 by the time the ski season began in late December.
