Golf Digest just released its annual list of the “Top 30 Good Guys on the PGA Tour,” and Elmhurst’s Mark Wilson is right up there! Wilson ranks at #14 just behind Rory McIlroy and just ahead of #15 Zach Johnson.

PGA players, caddies, media members, various golf officials, and insiders all vote on choices for the “good guys” on the tour.

To get the official Good Guy nod, tour members get graded on several criteria, including treatment of fans, being a good role model, treating the "little people" well on tour, or simply being "nice when no one is looking."

Wilson turned professional in 1997. He has five PGA Tour wins, including the 2012 Humana Challenge, the 2011 Sony Open, the 2011 Waste Management Open, the 2009 Mayakoba Golf Classic, and the 2007 Honda Classic. He has two career holes-in-one in competitive rounds. Last month he played in the Wells Fargo Championship in Wilmington, N.C.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Wilson won the 1996 Ben Hogan Award, given to the best college golf player in the U.S.

Mark and his wife Amy are raising their three sons in Elmhurst. They are heavily involved in charities, particularly Blessings in a Backpack, which sends needy children home every weekend with nonperishable food for Saturday and Sunday.

In 2015, they hosted the Mark Wilson Classic, which raised $170,000 and fed nearly 600 eligible kids in the two schools the Wilson sponsor for four years.

They are also involved with the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer), the Amy and Mark Wilson Delta Gamma Lectureship in Values and Ethics at Indiana University, the Western Golf Association Evans Scholars Foundation, and The First Tee of Chicago.

Amy is the former president of the PGA TOUR Wives Association, a charitable organization focused on children and families.

Congratulations to Mark!  Be sure to wish him well if you see him around town.
