Every now and then, a community member makes a lasting impact on his or her friends and neighbors. Here in Elmhurst, we were fortunate to have two such people – brothers Robert and Theodore Kross, Bob and Ted – whose kindness and generosity to Elmhurst lives on after their deaths.

The brothers were members of the greatest generation having served in World War II, returning to become staunch supporters of the community. Ted was especially interested in local history, and had even compiled a book of family trees that chronicled local families and their histories.

Late last month, Bob and Ted’s nieces and nephews came to Elmhurst from their homes across the country to present a check for $70,000 to the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation. The funds come from the brothers’ estate and are earmarked for the foundation’s Visionary Voices campaign, which will go toward the creation of a new History of Elmhurst exhibit set to open at the Historical Museum in the fall of 2014. While specific plans for the exhibit are still in the planning process, the goal is to make it as interactive and engaging as possible.

The brothers were lifelong Elmhurst residents, each of them graduating from York High School and Elmhurst College. They both passed away in 2011, just months apart, both in their nineties. Here at The Gracik Makinney Group, we were happy to be able to help the family by representing them in the sale of Bob and Ted’s home. Their spirit of giving back to the community that nurtured them is part of the fabric that makes Elmhurst the wonderful place it is today.

Bob and Ted, with their generosity and ongoing support of the community, are great examples of why we choose to call Elmhurst home. You can be a part of this great community, too. It’s a fantastic time to buy or sell property, and all of us here at The Gracik Makinney Group are ready to help.
