Good news for our local medical center! U.S. News and World Reports listed Elmhurst Memorial Hospital as one of the best in Illinois in its 2016 rankings report.

Elmhurst came in at #11 in Illinois and #10 in the Chicago area.

The survey used data from nearly 5,000 centers across the country. Scores were based on patient outcome and care-related factors, such as patient safety and nurse staffing.

Elmhurst Hospital received the highest possible rating in seven out of the nine procedures and conditions evaluated, including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, and knee replacement.

It also received highest scores in four of the 16 medical specialties evaluated: gastroenterology and GI surgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology.

The top three hospitals in Illinois include Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Rush University Medical Center, and the University of Chicago Medical Center, all in Chicago. Elmhurst Memorial came in at #11 and sister hospital Edward Hospital came in at #14.

The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota was ranked #1 in the country.

Elmhurst Hospital has 259 beds, and had 14,105 admissions, 3,370 inpatient surgeries, and 5,456 outpatient surgeries last year as well as 48,045 emergency room visits.
