Elmhurst Memorial Immediate Care Expands

by Thomas Makinney

Minor illnesses and accidents happen to everyone. When you have a non-emergency but still need immediate medical care you can seek out an urgent care center. Elmhurst Memorial offers two Immediate Care Centers, one located at Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare Addison Health Center and one at the Lombard Health Center. These locations are part of the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital network and offer the same high standard of care for even your minor medical emergencies.

No appointments are necessary for Immediate Care visits but you should check with your insurance provider to make sure that the visit and treatment will be covered. Some common illnesses and injuries that you might seek treatment for at an Immediate Care center include:

-Sore throats (including an earache or sinus infection)

-Colds and flu

-Minor rashes or allergic reactions

-Strains, sprains or fractures

-Minor cuts or burns

Because the Immediate Care Center has had an increase in demand, the Addison and Lombard locations are expanding their weekend and holiday hours. Both sites will open at 8 am and will remain open until 6 pm on weekends and holidays. Weekday hours will remain the same, 8 am to 8 pm.

The Elmhurst Memorial’s Addison Immediate Care center is located in the Addison Health Center at 303 W. Lake St. The Lombard Immediate Care is located in the Lombard Health Center at 130 S. Main St.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, call 9-1-1 or go to your closest Emergency Department:

-Difficulty breathing or chest pain

-Altered level of consciousness or mental state

-Severe allergic reaction that could include hives or throat swelling

-Profuse bleeding

-Inability to drink or eat

Many people will be better served by the expanded hours that the Immediate Care center is offering. Why You Should Hire a Real Estate Agent

by Thomas Makinney

Buying or selling your home is not only one of the biggest investments you can make in your life, it also can be one of the biggest hassles, or worse yet, nightmares. Many are the stories of buyers looking for their dream home, thinking they have found it, only to lose out on an offer, or find out their new home needs more repairs than they can manage. You can find an equal number of sellers trying to get what they put into their house back in their selling price, only to find their house remain on the market much longer than the average listed house at too high a price. Often these scenarios occur when there is not a Real Estate agent involved.

People look for ways to save money, including forgoing a real estate agent. They believe that they will save money on commissions or fees, when in reality they most likely will end up spending more money, especially in time and energy.  Think about it, would you decline to go to a doctor for a serious ailment or injury to save money?  No, you would not, as doctors and hospitals provide a vital service where their education, experience and procedures help you get better.

Working with a real estate agent is much the same. There are so many details when it comes to buying or selling a house. Anyone without an agent can quickly become overwhelmed with the terms and processes involved in buying a home. From finding a mortgage lender, to knowing the current options for buying and selling home, an agent can simplify even the most confusing details. When you work with an agent, you become the grand master of your home buying or selling experience.  Your agent is working for you.  It is in their best interest to make the complicated process go smoothly so you can reap the rewards.

Agents also know the details beyond what house is for sale or what an average price is for your neighborhood.  They know what works well to help sell a home and which areas offer what you need or want in a new home. Real Estate agents take the mystery and complications of buying or selling a home and allow you to focus on what you want to accomplish in the large scheme of things.  Their service is a real benefit to which you can use to sell your home with ease or find the home of your dreams.

There are services in life that are worth use of a professional, and Real Estate is one of them.  Save yourself time, money, aggravation and frustration by working with an agent today.

Let the experience of The Gracik Makinney Group work for you. Whether you are buying or selling your home, our team is prepared to make the process easier for you. Drop by the office at 190 North York Road here in Elmhurst, or give us a call at 630-441-5570.

Local Elmhurst band, The Orwells, On National Television Show

by Thomas Makinney

One of Elmhurst's local bands with ties to the Gracik Makinney Group has reached a new level in fame. The Orwells will be appearing as the musical guest on The Late Show with David Letterman.

On Wednesday, January 15th, 2014 David Letterman will open with his usual monologue and then welcome guest Kevin Hart. The musical guest for the show will be The Orwells. Recent musical guests to the show include Lorde, Pitbull and Glen Hansard. This type of media exposure is a fantastic boost to our local band.
The Orwells are a rock band from Elmhurst. Their members include Mario Cuomo (vocalist), Dominic Corso (guitarist), Matt O’Keefe (guitarist), Grant Brinner (bassist) and Henry Brinner (drummer).  Matt O’Keefe is the son of our friends Tom and Karen O’Keefe.

These native Elmhurst sons formed their band as freshman at York Community High School and were discovered in late 2011. Corso and Cuomo are cousins, the Brinners are twin brothers and all of the members of the band have been friends for years. Their debut album, “Remember When” was released Aug 7th, 2012.

They got their start playing in a basement and eventually moved on to performing live shows in Chicago’s Schubas Tavern and Beat Kitchen.  Their first break came in 2010 when they were able to play a few songs after Greta Morgan and her band, Gold Metal, wrapped up early at the Wicker Park venue Subterranean.

Since their time in high school, the band has gone on to seriously pursue their musical career.  In August 2013, the band got a bigger break when they were able to secure a spot in Lollapalooza. They have been scheduled to appear at the music festival again this year.  The Orwells have been on a U.K. tour and have completed a recording with British producer Jim Abbiss and have also recorded a new album in Woodstock, N.Y. with producer Chris Coady.

Don’t miss your chance to tune in and watch our local band achieve a new level of success on Wednesday when they play on The Late Show.  All of us here at the Gracik Makinney Real Estate Group wish the best of luck to The Orwells. Our local community includes a wide range of artisans and talents and it is another reason why Elmhurst is such a great place to call home. Why not make it your home, too? Let us show you what’s available. Give us a call on 630-441-5570, reach us by email or stop by the office at 190 North York Road here in Elmhurst.
